Annie Chapman is the second canonical victim of Jack the Ripper. She was murdered in the early hours of September 8th, 1888 — a week after Mary Ann Nichols was found.

However, Annie is the third Whitechapel murder of this nature. Martha Tabram was the first.* However, Annie’s considered the second Jack the Ripper victim because Martha’s murder was committed differently. (I personally believe Martha could have been the first murder victim, but for simplicity’s sake, I’m only going to dive into the lives of the Canonical Five.)

Martha Tabram was murdered a month before Mary and Annie, so by the time Mary was murdered, the public had forgotten about it. But Mary and Annie’s murders happened in quick succession. The brutality of Mary’s murder caught attention, and now there was a second.

But enough about her death.

Let’s read about her life.

If you haven’t, I highly recommend starting with the first article in the series. I’ve left links in all the articles so you can easily read them in order if you’d like. But if you don’t, that’s totally okay too, you rebel.
