English/US literature is horrendous with centering itself as a standard to emulate. US literature hates being uncomfortable. The works we read in school are really quite boring. It doesn’t matter what we "need," but we need works we can’t immediately relate to more than ever right now. And I’m willing to bet people around you need the opposite. Your writing is more important than you know, and you don’t need my validation for that to be true. I just wanted to affirm it. Writer to writer.
