I was actually thinking about Joker when reading this! White men have a track record of taking characters or songs that criticize them and turning them into something to emulate or relate to. Rick and Morty is another one that comes to mind.There’s another one on the tip of my tongue/S-pen?, but the more I think, the more it eludes me.

I think part of it has to do with a "You’re either with me or against me” mindset. Satire or social commentary doesn’t work like that, so they miscategorize it at face value.

Open criticism isn’t negative, but constructive. But it is percieved as an attack by white supremacy. Satire or other forms of media that “show” criticism instead of “tell” it is the flipside of that.
